Data Policies

Department of Energy Office of Science

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science mission is to deliver the scientific discoveries and major scientific tools that transform our understanding of nature and advance the energy, economic, and national security of the United States. The Office of Science Statement on Digital Data Management has been developed with input from a variety of stakeholders in this mission. Here, data management involves all stages of the digital data life cycle including capture, analysis, sharing, and preservation. The focus of this statement is the sharing and preservation of digital research data.

The Biological and Environmental Research (BER) program offers Additional Requirements and Guidance for Digital Data Management which supplement but do not replace the requirements and guidance in the Office of Science Statement on Digital Data Management.

NGEE Arctic

The NGEE Arctic project is committed to upholding a rigorous and high-quality data management strategy consistent with the DOE Policy for Digital Research Data Management. Additionally, the Project offers its own Data Publication and Sharing Policy.

In accordance with the sponsoring program, the NGEE Arctic project developed its Data Management Plan containing details about the project’s data quality assurance methods, archiving procedures, and sharing of data and modeling code. The plan also includes how to appropriately credit the data authors and cite the data in publications.

The Software Productivity and Sustainability Plan describes the Project's process for developing and modifying software used in the project, consistent with the policies of the DOE.
