August 24th, 2020
Leadership team takes time and intentional steps to build a culture of safety and respect across the project.
The Objective:
- Assess efforts to create a project-wide culture of safety, inclusion, and trust that facilitates strong collaboration and exciting scientific discoveries.
New Science:
- Lessons learned are shared with the peers in the scientific community through open and honest self-evaluation and illustrations.
- Focus is on a decade of experience working at remote field sites in the Alaskan Arctic, underpinned by a focus on (1) safe and harassment-free work environments, (2) respect for local culture, and (3) collaboration and open and inclusive science.
The Impact:
- Scientists must become leaders in creating cultures of safety, inclusion, and trust to facilitate the physical and emotional well-being of individuals in scientific teams and in the local communities where we work.
